Boysenberry Festival at Knott’s Berry Farm

Growing up in Southern California, Knott’s Berry Farm was one of our absolute favorite places to go for rides, fun, and food!  Yes, I was a tiny foodie right from the start, and this place contributed to my food education.  Seriously, my love of funnel cakes started the first time I headed to the Log Ride and caught a whiff of these magical treats.  Little did I realize that the amusement park actually had its roots from a connection to food.  I’ll share the history later on, but first let me get to the Boysenberry Festival!

This year’s Boysenberry Festival will be 16 whole days from March 28 to April 12, 2015.  Tons of “Boysenberry Bites,” dazzling entertainment, gourmet food, and the Wine and Craft Brew Garden will make this year’s festival unforgettable!

I was invited to a media tasting event, where I got to experience what’s in store for this year.  Believe me, you definitely want to have a look… and then you’ll want to have a taste!

Normally, I go to the trouble of describing each dish in detail, but in this case, the pictures speak for themselves.  At the end, I’ll post my favorite, can’t-miss dishes, but in the meantime… enjoy some serious boysenberry eye candy!

Lastly, you can take the Boysenberry fun home with you!  I loved some of the sweet treats like the boysenberry gummy bears and the classic preserves.

In between tasting treats, we took a tour and found out more about the history of Knott’s.  You should check it out for yourself to find out all the juicy tidbits!

Here’s a quick history: Walter Knott began selling boysenberries, named after Rudolph Boysen, from his farm in Buena Park.  When his wife Cordelia began serving all kinds of wonderful treats featuring boysenberries and lines began to form, Walter entertained the crowds by building a Ghost Town.  Bit by bit, the amusements eventually became the Knott’s that we think of today!

As promised, here are my highlights from the items that I tasted!  My top treat was the amazing Fried Fun Bun, plus I really enjoyed the Fried Cheese Curds, BBQ Chicken Wings, Corn on the Cob, Chicken and Sausage Sandwich, and the Chocolate Dipped Boysenberry Creamsicle.  All winners, but you’ll have to try for yourself!  For more info about the Boysenberry Festival and to buy tickets, check out the Knott’s Berry Farm website!
