Taco Maria (Orange, CA)

I was feeling under the weather, but we had plans with some friends to go to Taco Maria, so I collected myself as much as possible and we headed out to try a new restaurant!

First of all, we were seated outside, so the lighting wasn’t the best.  Excuse the photos, but as you can see above, they still looked (and tasted) wonderful!

Here is the prix fixe menu that we had to choose from.  For each course, we had our choice of two different items, so my guy and I did the smart thing and ordered one of each.  🙂

There was a beverage pairing for each, but I was both sick and the designated driver.  It was delicious water for me!

This is the beautiful photo at the top of the post, and I completely forgot what it was.  Sorry folks!

A delicious take on chips and guacamole!

Tamal de Calabaza

My favorite dish of the night!  I really enjoyed the tamale, and the colors were just beautiful.

Course 3

Jardineros

Shiitake, poblano chile, queso Oaxaca, alliums

My guy is not a fan of mushrooms, so I ordered this one.  However, he actually ended up preferring mine!  The earthy mushrooms paired with the creamy queso Oaxaca was really delicious.  Also, the alliums were a nice little pop of color in a dish that could have been completely colorless

Pozole de Moluscos

Shellfish, hominy, brassica, young Meyer lemon

A nice, fresh seafood soup.  The hominy was an interesting touch, and if you are wondering brassica refers to the family of vegetables, including cabbage, cauliflower, and broccoli.

Arroz con Pollo

Mary’s chicken, toasted farro, Hosui pear, anise

This was such a nice version of arroz con pollo with toasted farro on the side!  I love farro, and I always look forward to it on the menu.  Oh, and the chicken was good too!  🙂

Arrachera

Hanger steak, onion, fava leaves, bone marrow

I am pretty sure the picture speaks for itself.

Cookie!

This was a nice little treat that we were given, and it was just the right amount of sweetness at the end of a lovely meal.

Overall, I really loved it, and I would definitely go back for their spring, summer, and regular menus!  Also, I will definitely have to explore the OC Mart more, especially because I love their other restaurants like The Iron Press and ARC Food and Libations!

Have you tried a new restaurant lately?
