Amor y Tacos (Cerritos, CA) #2

The last time I was here was less than a month ago, but I just had to return!  It was just after my woodworking class, and I was meeting two people for lunch.  It just happened that our paths converged on Amor Y Tacos!  Two of us independently thought of eating here, so it was kismet.  🙂

Since it was a last minute decision, I only had my phone on hand to take pictures even though I told Amor Y Tacos that I would bring my nice camera.  Okay, next time!

However, I did keep my promise to order a certain dish I had in mind…

Okay, but before we get to the food we ordered, let’s set the scene.  Remember last time how I told you that it was no frills outside?  I wasn’t kidding, but it’s what is on the inside that counts and I kind of like how it makes this a bit of a hidden gem.  Well, maybe not hidden much longer…

This time I did not take pictures of the interior, but you can see the previous post for that.  We were in a rush since it was lunchtime and luckily they have a menu for just that!

Now let’s get to the food!

Carne Asada Tacos

with Amor salsa, avocado, cotija, micro cilantro, charred green onion

These tacos were lovely!  I had a few bites of one (we all like to share) and the meat was just amazing! Sometimes, carne asada has a chewy, hard texture, but these were tender morsels that were perfectly cooked.  Highly recommended for anyone who loves a good taco… so basically everyone!

Wow, that’s a massive plate and every single taco was completely different!  Definitely a way to treat the tastebuds.  🙂

Amor Chile Relleno Burger

special blend of ground angus, short rib, brisket & sirloin, chile relleno de queso, red leaf tomato onion jam, garlic mayo, brioche bun, tater tots

Wow, wow, wow.   This was the best burger I have had in such a long time, and you know how often I go out to eat!  Not only did it surpass the high expectations I had, it totally blew them away.  This was with weeks of anticipation building up too, so you can just imagine how good it was.  The burger patty was tender and flavorful, the chile relleno was perfectly ooey and gooey, and the tomato jam was a perfect accompaniment to the entire thing.

And boy was that thing massive too!  I did not finish my tater tots partially because I was super full, and partially because they were pretty standard tots.  Obviously, I was definitely not starving after tackling the beast.  Just figuring out how to eat it was an accomplishment!  🙂

This time, I went to the restaurant with even higher expectations and it somehow surpassed them.  I caught sight of the Chef and wanted to congratulate him on such wonderful food, but he was in a business meeting.  Next time!  Oh, and I won’t forget the camera either.  🙂

When was the last time a dish you were eagerly anticipating actually exceeded your expectations?
