solita Tacos & Margaritas (Huntington Beach, CA)

One of the best things about living in Southern California is the wonderful Mexican food.  You can find the usual trucks, seafood spots, and so on, but there are very few spots that stand out… and solita is one them!

Besides the absolutely gorgeous space, I decided to make my way over to the convenient Huntington Beach location for their Taco & Tequila Tuesday specials!  Believe me, I had plenty of both…  🙂

Now, to the food!

Frozen Margarita Flight
Pomegranate, watermelon, guava

I chose these three flavors that ended up being varying shades of pink, but I could have chosen strawberry, kiwi, mango, or pineapple to complete my tasty trio!

grilled corn elote
whole ear of sweet corn roasted & grilled with butter, chipotle salsa, California chiles, cotixa & green onion

This was not one of the Tuesday specials, but I was told that I just had to try it.  Oh my goodness, I can totally see why!!!  The ingredients basically read as a hit list of my favorite items, so it’s a given that I would like it… but I love it.  Just try it and thank me later.  🙂

guacamole solita
fresh made guacamole served ‘old school’ in a fried tortilla bowl, topped with diced mango, tomato, onion, serrano chile, & cilantro

I’m not sure if you can really tell, but the size of the guacamole bowl was frankly enormous!  Definitely made for sharing, but you may not want to.  🙂  I am sometimes wary of ordering subpar guacamole, but the ingredients are so fresh and it is spiced to perfection!

Chips & Salsa
House Made Chile de Arbol Hot Sauce and “evil green”

Usually chips and salsa are throwaway items that are put on the table… but not here!  For one thing, you want chips with your guacamole, plus the salsas are fantastic!  Also, hidden away in the chip basket are the fried duros, which actually look like wagon wheels of pasta before they are fried!

oak-roasted chicken tacos
fresh chickens, smoked & roasted, pulled from the bone

solita (Huntington Beach, CA) on The Episodic Eater

Beautiful little tacos with amazing chicken!  They leave it relatively undressed, so you can add all the pico de gallo and salsas you want.  I’m a salsa fiend, so I always use it all.

Deep Fried Ice Cream
Vanilla bean ice cream with coconut breading, on nutella with dulce de leche & chocolate sauces

If you’re going to take the plunge with ice cream, why not add coconut, nutella, dulce de leche, and chocolate… and then deep fry it!  It’s delicious, so make sure to save room!

Such a great restaurant with creative, amazing food.  If you can, try to make it in for Taco & Tequila Tuesdays when the deals are even more exceptional!
