85°C Bakery Cafe (Southern California)

After La Tavolata, we went to 85°C Bakery Cafe to pick up a couple of desserts for home.  It’s a bit like the bakery at the end of my Mitsuwa Marketplace post because there are both sweet and savory pastries.  Let’s take a peek!

There are a few branches around Southern California, and this one is the newest opening!

As soon as you step in, there are tons of items to choose from…

Including some unusual ones, like this Calamari Stick.  Ooh, definitely for the adventurous!

There are pretty ones like this Mango Bread.  So delicate and beautiful, right?

We chose a few items, which I’ll go into below.  It’s cafeteria style and you just throw it on a tray, elementary-school steel.  😉

I took note of these beautiful desserts on the way out.  Next time I need a special occasion cake, I will definitely have this on my list!

It was so wonderful!  I have an affinity for raisins, so you know that I loved this one!

Matcha Red Bean Roll

Matcha (green tea in Japanese) flavored sponge roll with fresh cream & red bean mixed.

I also love green tea and red bean, classic Japanese flavors.  I must say that it looked better than it tasted, but only because it is so beautiful.

Blueberry Half Moon

Vanilla sponge cake with fresh cream. Topped with blueberry jam & coconut shavings

This was enormous!  The inside had a line of blueberry jam sandwiched in between and the dusting of coconut shavings were wonderful additions.  Light, fluffy, and perfectly sweet!

Here are all four of the ones I sampled that night.  The next day I had the cream puff, which was okay.  However, I’ll leave it to Beard Papa or Candle Light Bakery to handle those.

I will definitely try a few new ones next time we head back and maybe have a more adventurous savory one as well!

By the way, if you noticed that I take little samples of each one, that is just how I am.  My friends and family have gotten used to it.  🙂  So don’t be surprised that if I have dessert with you one day that you find a tiny slice missing if you turn your back…

Are you a sampling fiend like me or do you like to stick to one dish at a time?
