Zov’s (Anaheim, CA) – Grand Opening!

I have a very long history with Zov’s, so when I found out that a new location was opening in Anaheim, I was happy to be invited to a sneak peek before the grand opening!

In 1987, the same year that Zov’s opened, my family was new to the Tustin area when I began going to kindergarten nearby.  Well, I ended up going to elementary school in another city the following year, but luckily my dad had already stumbled upon Zov’s Bakery and Cafe.  We have been loyal customers ever since!

Since then, the restaurant has expanded to Newport Coast, Irvine, and Santa Ana.  The newest location in Anaheim is absolutely beautiful and Chef Zov Karamardian was there on hand with Chef Louie Jocson to welcome us!

The magnificent interior, designed by Charles Ramm, was absolutely stunning.  Personally, I couldn’t wait to make my way to the gorgeous bar and order a drink!

Melon Mule
Grey Goose melon vodka, fresh lime juice, ginger beer, simple syrup

Zov's (Anaheim, CA) on The Episodic Eater

A lovely, refreshing drink that everyone loved!  I’m already a fan of Moscow Mules, so this was a fun twist on the old standard.  Luckily, it was served in my favorite traditional, copper mug.  🙂

Brussels and Bacon
flash fried brussel sprouts, nueske bacon, caper vinaigrette, pinot noir syrup

Zov's (Anaheim, CA) on The Episodic Eater

Doesn’t this sound like a buddy cop film starring Jean-Claude Van Damme and Kevin Bacon?  Don’t mind me, because I’m just giddy from how amazing this dish is!  The Brussels sprouts are perfectly cooked and the pinot noir syrup is so divine, I would eat it on anything.

Fried Cauliflower
chives, preserved lemon gremolata, roasted pepper aioli

Zov's (Anaheim, CA) on The Episodic Eater

With a simple name like fried cauliflower, you may not be expecting much.  But holy cow, this dish was amazing.  Perfectly crunchy and light, plus I am totally in love with the red pepper aioli that it was served with.  Maybe I should clarify now, that I absolutely every dish was amazing, worth ordering over and over again!

Triple Pepper Deviled Eggs
red pepper sauce, toasted urfa pepper, aleppo pepper, cornichons

Zov's (Anaheim, CA) on The Episodic Eater

I wasn’t sure what to think of deviled eggs, because they are such an old-fashioned dish.  However, I can see why they are making a comeback with updated versions such as this!  With five deviled eggs and four people at the table, we were all eying the last one and trying our hardest to be polite…

Lamb Meatballs
spicy tomato sauce, kashkaval cheese, grilled pita

Zov's (Anaheim, CA) on The Episodic Eater

Okay, if we were trying to be nice about having the last deviled egg, this battle was even tougher.  I won this one, and I’m ecstatic.  Tender lamb meatballs with a spicy sauce?  You know I’m in!  It was so good that everyone couldn’t help but dip extra pita into the dish because once again, the sauce was incredible.

Who Gives a Shiitake – Pitza Pie
rotisserie chicken, shiitake mushroom, basil puree, goat cheese, olives

Zov's (Anaheim, CA) on The Episodic Eater

Besides the most amazing name for a “pitza” pie, I thought this looked like a work of art.  Almost too pretty to eat!

Peppercorn Filet
8 oz. green peppercorn demi glaze, olive oil mashed potatoes, seasonal vegetables

The picture speaks for itself, and with the wonderful kitchen staff at Zov’s, you could not go wrong ordering the filet.

Sumac Roasted Seabass
shaved brussel sprouts, baby spinach, tomato, rice pilaf, caper citrus butter sauce

Zov's (Anaheim, CA) on The Episodic Eater

Using the unique sumac spice, this was clearly going to be a beautiful Mediterranean-inspired dish.  The lovely shaved Brussels sprouts and tasty rice pilaf were wonderful accompaniments to this bright dish!

Rosemary Lamb Chops
olive oil mashed potatoes, garlic wilted spinach, roasted herb tomato, pomegranate molasses demi

Zov's (Anaheim, CA) on The Episodic Eater

Possibly the most mouth-watering dish was the lamb.  I adored the pomegranate molasses demi, which was a lovely sweetness to complement the rest of the dish.  One of the favorites of the night!

Broken Banana Cream Pie

Zov's (Anaheim, CA) on The Episodic Eater

Chef Louie Jocson developed this dessert with his daughter, and it made its way into my full belly at the end of the night!  It was perfectly light and sweet, and just the right amount of decadent.

I am so happy to have tried so many wonderful dishes at the new Zov’s location, and I can’t wait to return!  Now, the hard part will be deciding whether or not to reorder my new favorite dishes above or to try something new…

Do you find a favorite dish and stick with it, or are you a fearless menu explorer?
